OPV748

The OPV P71 built for the Maltese Armed Forces has the possibility to accommodate a crew of 50 and the ability to embark additional employee equal to 20 elements. The ship is characterized by an integrated bridge in an elevated position with 360-degree viewing capability and side passages protected for the crew on the main deck and around the same dashboard. The aft area below the flight deck shall have a launch and recovery station always aft for an RHIB of 9,1 m with additional space for materials and crew as well as doors on the overhead flight deck for the loading/unloading of materials thanks to a special crane on the port side of the ship. A second 9.1-meter RHIB station is located on the starboard side of the platform in the main area of the ship. Both RHIB have a maximum speed of over 40 knots for maritime traffic control and search and rescue operations. The hybrid propulsion of the P71 is focused on two diesel engines of 5,440 kW each that together with as many electric motors of unspecified power on two axes with variable pitch propeller groups can offer (all together) a maximum speed of more than 20 knots. The new unit is equipped with a forward thruster and mobile stabilizer fins to ensure greater seaworthiness.
