The C.871 tugboat is designed to perform at best all the activities and technical services regarding towing, pushing and escorting in ports or open sea, guiding third parties towards docking maneuvers and recovery ships in eventual failure.
The unit is able to reach a bollard pull of 65 t and is also designed to operate in extreme conditions and navigate in freezing waters.
The vessel has in fact an ICE2 class notation, which certifies its ability to perform its tasks even in non-arctic ice waters. A test model, with added ice, was studied at the Krilov Research Center in St. Petersburg, in order to perfectly calibrate the hydrodynamics of the boat in any potential condition of activity.
The entire construction, including safety and rescue equipments, respects all class requirements of the RMRS (Russian Maritime Register of Shipping). The propulsion system consists of two 2000 kW engines, installed at middle ship, which activates the azimuthal stern thrusters.
This, combined with the shape of the hull designed to maximize the flow of water to the propellers, enables the unit to do excellent performances in terms of towing, speed, towing stability, course keeping and navigation ability; beyond providing a perfect maneuverability.
With its compact structure, which includes two orders of superstructures and a single deck, this tugboat is designed to perform at its best the most complex technical and recovery operations, even in extreme weather conditions.
